The Next Economic Revolution (GOOG, IBM, IRBT, LMT, XRX):

'via Blog this'

Imagine a Village. A balanced and content village.

A few grow and harvest the food.
A few hunt for food.
A few take care of livestock.
A few take care of health needs.
A few protect against enemies.
A few build huts.
A few take care of the children.
A few entertain dancing around fires
A few make tools people need.

You can imagine that certain of these roles are more respected than others.

Then an alien brings a machine to the village that can do anything.
It is used by a few tool makers and starts by replacing the sowing of fields. Then replaces the harvesting. Then it replaces mediine man and all food creation preparing.

What does the village do with those who's jobs are replaced? Do they start doing the jobs that remain? What happens to their status in the village? What if there is not enough for them to do anymore?

Do they become outcasts. Do they learn to make up new work? Does the village take care of them anyways?

What happens when the machine replaces all but one or two jobs? Do the keepers of the machines keep everything and let the others die? What happens when the machine is self-sustaining? Does the village disappear?

Penn State Scandal

Just read the Grand Jury report on this former Defensive coach Jerry Sandusky accusing him of sexual assault of 10 to 13 year old boys. Sick fuck. And they let him out on bail. He raped boys! He should be in jail and under serious counseling for his sickness. The lack of outrage at the school makes you wonder how many other pedophiles are there. And what about his wife? She surely knew what was going on and did nothing.

This is going to be a huge story and will do imeasurable harm to Penn State and the rest of sports.

This Penn State scandal is very disturbing. That place sounds like its way too insular and almost a cult. Nothing good is going to come out of having the Nebraska game on Saturday. Especially, with McQueary continuing to coach on the sidelines or box. I don’t think Penn State can understand how the rest of the country views this scandal. The whole place is run by former students who drank the kool-aid.

Case of letting person die

There was a storm of protests after that repub debate when Ron Paul was asked a hypothetical question about a young man without insurance. Some in the audience yelled let him die!

What was missing in all the coverage was the case details. This young man had a job and decent pay but chose not to take the insurance. He decided he would rather self-insure and keep the premiums. When tragegy happened, the question was who should pay for his medical costs. I don’t think society has an obligation to pay for these costs in this case. The person could have bought the insurance but decided to take the risk. Should society take on that risk? I don’t think so. Just like the financial risks that the banks took and didn’t adequately insure. People have complained that they pushed the risk onto society and tax payers while keeping any of the rewards.

The better hypothetical would have been a case where the person did not have a job and could not afford insurance. The moderator is not too clever.

Hey Perry, social security has $2.5 TRILLION in reserves. Shut the hell up!
